Last Sunday, 28 August 2016, was a day to let my inner kid loose at the Festival Hari Anak Nasional aka National Children’s Day Festival in Ubud or in short let’s just call it Ubud Kids Festival. This festival was organised by KataKopi, a group of creative people who live in Ubud and got together and decided to create awesome events that are fun and educative, especially for children. This is their second year running the kids festival. And this year I happened to live in Ubud and was part of the team. 🙂
Led by Shinta Oktania from ASA Film as the Festival Director and Yasminida Muridan as the Program Director along with Budi Boleng Santoso from Lovelife Studio Bali (who created the awesome trophies for the kids from recycled bottles as well as other designs for the festival) and an army of volunteers… we managed to put the festival together from just a coffee table talk to D-day in an intense 3 weeks without killing each other! Haha…
Under the theme “Merdeka Dalam Berkarya” (Freedom In Creativity) Ubud soccer field where the festival was held was filled with over 200 kids from around town. From drawing competition, poetry reading, recycled fashion show, storytelling, balap karung (sack racing), balap enggrang (stilts racing), face painting, drum circle, an assortment of circus activities (hula hoop, juggling, etc), giant snake & ladder game and filmmaking workshop… those kids had a blast! (The grown ups had a blast too ;))
Check out this awesome vlog by Putu Aditya Nugraha that really captures the fun at the festival:
Check out the short films that the kids made at the festival in only 3-4 hours! (Special thanks to the mentors and fellow filmmakers: Cyril, David Arthur and Jacqui Hocking)

Also thanks to all the sponsors who came through and supported the festival in short notice:
Until next year!
